New Balance insoles

Q: How can I tell when my shoes are worn out?

A: Your body will remind you when it is time for new shoes. It is very common to develop minor ankle, knee, hip, and/or back pain when your shoes have lost the cushioning and support that they once provided. If you wear your shoes everyday, they will usually last 5-8 months. However, if you alternate your shoes, they may last 8-12 months, depending upon care.

To prolong the life of your shoes, replace the insoles when you start developing minor aches or pains. The original insoles in New Balance shoes are removable and most are only made to last 4-6 months. Why make an insole that's not going to last as long as the shoe you ask? Because not every foot is the same. The original insoles are basic, used simply to provide an extra layer of cushioning for the neutral, normal gait and great for anyone not suffering foot ailments. But a lot of runners and walkers need extra support or cushioning in different areas. In order to appeal to the greater good we keep the original insole basic and offer replacement insoles to accommodate specific needs.

Replacing your insoles not only maintains good footwear hygiene, but also proper arch support and shock absorbency. If your lifestyle is very active, you may want to examine and replace the original insoles in your shoes after 90 days. Pull insoles out to check for flattened areas around the forefoot and heel.

"On the weekends I work at a winery and I am on my feet 10-12 hours straight. Lots of lifting, standing, walking. In the beginning of the season I wanted to curl up and never go back I was in so much pain. My chiropractor asked to look at my shoes that I wear to work. Weird?! But she said it was the root of my problems, my shoes were worn out and without arch support my alignment was all off, causing extra stress on all of my muscles. So I spoke with Krista at Brown's and got a new pair of shoes but more importantly she helped me find the perfect insole for my foot shape and needs. I am now the proud owner of the New Balance Arch Support IAS3710 and can actually walk to my full-time job on Monday after a full weekend of being on my feet. Thanks Brown's!"  Sam C.

Foot Fact: The human foot has more than 250,000 sweat glands. That's 500,000 per pair of feet. Yikes! I'll spare you any further details but strongly recommend changing out your insoles. I did. And I sleep better at night.
